Davos, Zelensky unhappy with Europe, US-Russia-Ukraine trilateral meeting

In his speech in Davos, Ukrainian President Zelensky accused European leaders of waiting for directives from Trump instead of acting on their own. According to him, Europe is lost and divided, and in the battle over frozen Russian assets, Vladimir Putin has won. “Everyone paid attention to Greenland, and it is clear that many leaders do not know what to do with it. Europe must learn to defend itself,” Zelensky said.

During the speech, he advised Europe to play a stronger role in striking at the shadowy Russian fleet and said that Russia finds it too easy to produce missiles despite sanctions. According to him, the threat to Europe is existential and the continent needs united armed forces. “Today, Europe is pinning its hopes on the belief that if there is a danger, NATO will react. But no one has really seen NATO in action. If Putin decides to take Lithuania or attack Poland, who will respond? Now, NATO exists thanks to the belief that the United States will act eventually... but what if that doesn’t happen?” Zelensky asked.

Zelensky's speech came just minutes after his meeting with Donald Trump to discuss a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. Zelensky said the first trilateral meeting between the United States, Russia and Ukraine will take place tomorrow and the day after tomorrow in the United Arab Emirates. "I hope the Emirates are aware. Sometimes we get surprises from the American side," he said, answering questions in Davos.
