Trump creates "Peace Board" for Gaza - Member states sign accession to

US President Donald Trump created the Peace Board, which initially focused on strengthening the ceasefire in Gaza, but which he said could take on a broader role that could worry other global powers, although he said it would cooperate with the United Nations.

"Once this board is fully formed, we can do almost anything we want. And we will do this in cooperation with the United Nations," Trump said, adding that the UN has great potential that has not been fully utilized.

Trump, who will chair the board, invited dozens of other world leaders to join, saying he wants it to address challenges beyond the fragile ceasefire in Gaza, raising concerns that it could undermine the UN's role as the leading platform for global diplomacy and conflict resolution.

Other major global powers and traditional Western allies of the US have been hesitant to join the board, which Trump says permanent members should help fund with a payment of $1 billion each, responding either cautiously or declining the invitation.

The signing ceremony was held in Davos, Switzerland, where the annual World Economic Forum, which brings together global political and business leaders, is taking place.

Apart from the US, no other permanent member of the UN Security Council - the five nations with the most clout over international law and diplomacy since the end of World War II - has yet to pledge to join.

The creation of the board was supported by a United Nations Security Council resolution as part of Trump's peace plan for Gaza.
