Britain, $2 billion for Ukraine. Funding allows purchase of 5,000 air defense

The United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with a new $2 billion funding package to strengthen its defenses, allowing for the purchase of 5,000 air defense missiles.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer urged European powers to take decisive action after a summit on Ukraine's defense. He warned that the West stands at a "crossroads of history."

He also called on European leaders to join Britain and France in helping maintain stability if the war in Ukraine reaches a negotiated settlement.

Britain hosted a summit of European leaders on Sunday to reinforce support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, following tensions at his Oval Office meeting with US President Donald Trump.

Starmer announced that Britain, France and Ukraine had agreed to develop a ceasefire plan to present to the United States. He said the proposal emerged from discussions between the leaders after the disagreement at the White House.

The United Kingdom announced a few days ago a 2.26 billion pound loan to Ukraine, aimed at strengthening Kiev's defense industry.

The loan agreement was signed by UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko, with the first tranche expected next week.

Britain said the loan to Kiev would be funded by proceeds from frozen Russian assets as part of a $50 billion support package pledged by G7 countries.
