Italian businesses "look to China" - Seek cooperation with Beijing on electric vehicles
Lorenzo Riccardi, president of the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce, praised Beijing's commitment to further opening up the economy to foreign businesses. He highlighted the potential for cooperation between China and Italy in the electric vehicle sector.
The world watched Beijing closely last week as the country held its annual "two sessions," a major event in the country's political calendar that refers to meetings of the country's top legislature, the National People's Congress.
In the government work report, China reaffirmed its commitment to expanding the economy and stabilizing foreign trade and foreign investment.
"It is clear that China is reflecting sustainable growth with a policy that is encouraging foreign investment, promoting bilateral trade with countries like Italy, but is also consistent in its policies. So, we consider that this in the long term could be an advantage for Italian companies interested in returning to China or starting a new project," said Riccardi.
He said that the Chamber is paying special attention to opportunities for cooperation with China in the electric car market.
"One aspect I want to highlight is the automotive sector and I am talking specifically about the electric vehicle market. We consider that, of course, China is the number one market, the number one manufacturer and is promoting this new trend more quickly. We think that small and medium-sized enterprises from Italy can bring value to the supply chain, but also to the electric vehicle market in China.
"We believe that this is a practical area where Italian expertise, the quality of 'Made in Italy' can also cooperate with Beijing," emphasized the head of the Chamber of Commerce.
