B-Corp Certification for Companies in Albania - Italian Ambassador: It Has Many Advantages. Shkodra: We Launch a Support Program
The benefits of B-Corp certification for businesses operating in the Albanian market were the focus of a meeting held by the Italian Embassy in Tirana, with the aim of encouraging businesses to meet the criteria in this regard.
B-Corp or Benefit Corporation is a certification awarded to companies that adhere to economic, social, and environmental sustainability criteria.
"I take responsibility for underlining the importance of the topic, because the topic we are talking about today is primarily about people, that is, how the company puts the person at the center and how the company, by putting the person at the center, develops a line of entrepreneurship and consequently of management that is different from one that does not have the person at the center. So, the first point is how corporations generate a form of advantage and opportunity," said the Italian ambassador to our country, Marco Alberti.
Also present at the event was the Secretary General of the National Economic Council, Arben Shkodra, who announced the launch of a program to support Albanian companies that want to obtain this certification, but also other European certifications.
"To achieve this, we absolutely must start informing companies, distributing, creating their concept of this opportunity. Opportunities, but also the risks they pose. And of course, we must invest in these companies. Therefore, as the National Economic Council, we are thinking about this national program to support companies. How do we do this? We do it through international partners, we do it through experts. One of these is today to explain the possibility of supporting companies, but we must also do it by changing our mentality, the way we do business," said Shkodra.
Representatives of the Italian company PROMOS SRL, tasked with promoting B-Corp standards, highlighted the opportunities in Albania, and focused extensively on the economic benefits that come to companies after achieving this standard.
The criteria that are evaluated refer to five items: employees, community, customers, environmental impact, governance model. Meanwhile, various international research shows that obtaining B-Corp certification brings increased income, which constitutes an opportunity for the growth and development of enterprises in the country.
Such certification is highly valued by the European market and international banking institutions, which is why its extension is an essential factor for both improving the business climate in Albania and attracting foreign investment and facilitating lending.
