Rama in conference with Commissioner Kos: Our ambition, Albanians with a European passport within this decade!
In a joint press conference with the Commissioner for Enlargement in the European Union, Marta Kos, the Prime Minister of the country, Edi Rama, stated that Albania is very determined to successfully fulfill the very ambitious objective of completing the negotiations within 2027.
"We in the region have enthusiastically awaited your election because you are both of the EU, but also of ours, being from a country in the region, which has excelled in its path and is today a proud member of the EU, Slovenia. And however, having blood closer to us than to Brussels, I hope and I am convinced in fact, although you will not say this, I am extremely glad that we meet at a moment when we have reason to be proud of what we have done, you have reason to support us without reservation, but I want to emphasize, we do not take your support as something given once and for all, but as something that must be earned every day", said Rama.
"It is the support of a large and very demanding institution such as the EU, which we are aware that we must deserve every day because we want to become part of the united European family ," Rama continued.
"We know that there is no other alternative. Precisely because there is no other alternative to individual freedom. There is no other alternative to equality before the law, there is no other alternative to coexistence in diversity and to the European standards of this coexistence ," he emphasized.
Rama also said that " we are very determined to successfully fulfill the very ambitious objective of completing the negotiations within 2027 and my ambition, our ambition, is for Albanians to receive the EU passport within this decade and to be able, when they land at European airports, to enter from that corridor with that constellation of stars and not from that other corridor where it says "others". This is very important for us because our lives have been lost to others, for centuries."
"The Albanian Parliament has on the table today the financial agreements for the Growth Plan that pave the way for the start of financing the funds that are about 1 billion euros dedicated to Albania. So dear Marta, we want our lek ," he said.
