12-month bonds, in "free fall" - Weighted average yield reached 2.73%

The interest rate on 12-month treasury bills has recorded another minimum value. In the last auction, the weighted average yield reached 2.73%, significantly below the Bank of Albania's base interest rate. Interest for this debt instrument has been very high, with 29 requests in the auction for a total of around 16.9 billion lek. However, in the end, only 13 requests were accepted for the amount of 12 billion lek.

The same downward trend was also recorded by 6-month bonds, where the weighted average yield was recorded at 2.63%.

To invest in treasury bills and bonds, citizens can participate directly in the Bank of Albania's auctions or invest indirectly through investment funds, pension funds and other institutions authorized to invest in these instruments.

During 2025, total issuance is expected to be around 356.40 billion lekë and the instrument with the most frequent and highest issuance is expected to be the 12-month treasury bill.

Meanwhile, about a month ago, Albania entered the capital markets for the 7th time, successfully issuing a 10-year Eurobond worth 650 million euros, with a 4.75% coupon and a 5% interest rate (yield).
