Xi Jinping in the US with a large business delegation/ Visit a chance to offer

President Xi Jinping is preparing a large business delegation to accompany him on his visit to Washington, an unusual move given US skepticism of Chinese investment and strained relations with Beijing.

Xi rarely travels abroad with corporate executives, many of whom were exposed after Beijing's regulatory crackdown on the technology, education and property sectors that began in 2020.

The business delegation for the summit in the last week of September had not been previously reported. The move is intended in part to signal China's willingness to support investment and trade ties with the United States, while offering the White House some potential economic wins ahead of the midterm elections, analysts said.

Chinese companies have faced major restrictions on their investments and business operations in the US in recent years.

Washington has imposed a 100% tariff on Chinese electric vehicles, banned the import of foreign drones and robots, and forced the sale of TikTok's U.S. operations. Major Chinese tech firms have also been placed on the Entity List of firms or organizations considered a threat to national security and on a Pentagon blacklist.

Xi last took a large group of entrepreneurs to the US in 2015. During that visit, China signed a $38 billion deal for 300 Boeings and met with US technology executives.

In contrast, US President Donald Trump has traveled to China with large delegations of American leaders, including visits in 2017 and May of this year, seeking greater access to Chinese markets.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng will meet in early September to discuss the outcomes of the summit, for which there is still no exact date and location.
