Ukraine, 2.9 billion euros for the purchase of American weapons / The fund will

Ukraine expects to have about 2.9 billion euros in a special fund by next month to buy weapons from the United States and continue military efforts against the Russian invasion, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the media in Kiev.

The financial agreement, known as the Priority Requirement List for Ukraine, collects contributions from NATO member countries, except the US, to purchase American weapons, ammunition and military equipment.

“We have received over $2 billion from our partners precisely for this program,” Zelenskyy said at a joint press conference with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. “We will also receive additional funds in October. I think we will reach about 2.9 billion euros,” the Ukrainian leader added.

He did not provide details on the weapons that will be included in the first deliveries, but confirmed that they will contain missiles for Patriot air defense systems and ammunition for HIMARS rocket structures.

Patriot systems are vital to protecting the country from Russian air attacks, while HIMARS systems have significantly increased the precision strike capability of the Ukrainian army.

The end of the war, which has lasted over three years, still seems distant, despite US-led peace efforts.

A Kremlin spokesman reiterated Russia's readiness for peace talks, telling reporters that "we remain open to negotiations and prefer to resolve the Ukrainian crisis through political and diplomatic means."

However, Moscow has opposed some of the key proposals, and negotiations have not progressed.
