Halloween spending at "scary" levels - From pumpkins to chocolates,

Halloween, known for costumes, candy, and spooky fun, is much more than just a holiday. It's a powerful economic engine that generates billions of dollars each year.

Despite rising costs, most Americans won't give up on the holiday. According to the National Retail Federation, 73% of Americans plan to celebrate Halloween, a similar percentage to last year (72%).

In 2025, spending is expected to reach a record level of $13.1 billion, also surpassing the historic peak of $12.2 billion in 2023.

The most common activities for the holiday are: handing out chocolates (66%), dressing up in costumes (51%), and decorating homes or yards (51%). In addition, 46% plan to carve pumpkins, 32% to organize or attend parties, 24% to visit haunted houses, and 23% to dress up their pets.

In total, spending on chocolates is expected to reach $3.9 billion, while costumes will generate about $4.3 billion. Jewelry is also on the rise, with 78% of consumers planning to buy them (compared to 75% a year ago), for a total of about $4.2 billion.

On average, each person in the US is expected to spend $114.45, about $11 more than a year ago, surpassing the previous record of $108.24 set in 2023.
