Russia raises tariffs on wheat exports - Kremlin lowers quotas to stabilize prices and supply domestic market
Russia has raised tariffs on wheat exports by more than 18 percent, to $34.71 per metric ton, starting Dec. 4, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture announced.
The statement also states that the export customs duty on barley will amount to $16.6 per metric ton, and on corn $38.76 per ton.
The export tax rate for wheat is calculated based on an indicative price of $223.8 per ton, for barley at a price of $186.5 per ton and for corn at $218.9 per ton.
From June 2021, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture determines the amount of customs duties for wheat exports for a period of 1 week.
Russia, as the world's largest exporter of wheat, in addition to increasing duties for this crop, has reduced the export quota for 2025.
The Eurasian Economic Union Council announced that Russia's export quotas for the second half of the export season from February 15 to June 30, 2025 will be 11 million metric tons, up from 29 million tons in the same period this year.
"We are strengthening control over agricultural products in order to prioritize the supply of the domestic market, and these measures should stabilize the price situation," Russian official sources said.
The Council includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia and coordinates the customs policy of its members.
