How much tax do Albanians pay on the salaries they receive? - The anti-informality action and administration reform increased revenues by 65 million euros
The increase in salaries in the public administration has returned part of the money to the budget, due to the higher tax paid by the employees.
Referring to the official data of the Ministry of Finance, the tax on personal income during the period January-October 2024 was collected in the amount of 54.9 billion alleks with a jump of 6.5 billion alleks or 65 million euros more than the 10-month period of 2023.
Expressed as a percentage, revenues are 13.5% higher, surpassing even the planning made for this period.
This figure is at historic levels of the decade, where growth has been progressive from year to year. If we compare it with the year 2014, where 22.6 billion ALL were collected for this period, it results in more than doubling of the income from these taxes.
While in the month of October alone, 5 billion ALL were collected, or 500 million more than October 2023, also the highest figure collected over the years for this month.
But not only the growth in the state administration has had an effect, but also the positive pressure exerted in the private sector.
On the other hand, the anti-informality campaign undertaken by the government regarding the under-declaration of salaries had an impact, causing that during the month of October, over 9 thousand businesses reacted by declaring their employees' salaries with an increase.
In the item of personal income tax, the highest contribution is made by the tax on the salaries of employees in the private and public sector, followed by the tax paid from the sale of real estate, which is at the level of 15 percent, as well as the tax on rents .
Tax on income from dividends and tax on interest income also occupy a considerable space.
Personal income tax is the second most influential item in the annual state budget, after VAT, and accounts for nearly 26.7% of total tax revenue.
