"Minerals, a key priority for the US" - Trump discusses strengthening cooperation with Central Asian leaders

President Donald Trump called the issue of critical minerals a key priority as he hosted the leaders of five Central Asian countries at the White House. He highlighted his administration's efforts to expand and secure supply chains through new global agreements.
The meeting with the leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan came as Washington seeks to expand its influence in a resource-rich region long dominated by Russia and increasingly by China. Trump described Central Asia as “an incredibly rich region,” saying he is committed to strengthening America’s partnerships with the five countries.
“One of the top items on our agenda is the issue of critical minerals,” Trump said. “In recent weeks, my administration has strengthened American economic security by reaching agreements with allies around the world to expand our supply chains.”
The talks come as competition for Central Asia’s vast mineral wealth, including uranium, copper, gold, and more, is intensifying. Western countries have been trying to diversify their supply chains away from Moscow and Beijing in recent years. The US is pursuing new partnerships to secure critical minerals, energy, and land trade routes that bypass its geopolitical rivals.
In separate statements, each of the five Central Asian presidents expressed gratitude to Trump and signaled a commitment to deepen trade ties and pursue broader economic cooperation.
The C5+1 platform, launched in 2015, brings together the United States and five Central Asian states to strengthen cooperation on economic, energy, and security issues.
