Jeff Bezos enters AI race - New startup will focus on robotics and scientific

Billionaire Jeff Bezos is officially entering the artificial intelligence race as the CEO of a new startup called Project Prometheus, according to the New York Times.

The company has already secured $6.2 billion in funding, some from Bezos himself, according to three anonymous sources close to the project. That would make it one of the world's most funded early-stage startups.

If confirmed, the move would mark Bezos' first operational role at a company since stepping down as Amazon CEO in 2021.

The billionaire founder of Amazon and Blue Origin has recently shown an interest in artificial intelligence. Last year, he invested in Physical Intelligence, a startup that uses new technology to power robots.

According to the New York Times report, Project Prometheus has already hired approximately 100 employees, including researchers from leading companies such as OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Meta.

The three sources added that the startup will apply artificial intelligence to physical tasks, including robotics, drug design and scientific discovery, similar to firms like California-based Periodic Labs.

Instead of analyzing data like big data language models (BLMs), these companies aim to create systems that can learn from the physical world through trial and error.
