Chinese exports "fly" - Total shipments increase by over 8%, despite

China's global exports hit a six-month high in September, although shipments to the United States shrank 27% compared with the same month last year.

According to customs data, China's global exports were 8.3% higher than a year earlier, reaching around 283 billion euros. This increase is significantly higher than that in August, which was only 4.4%.

Imports also expanded by 7.4% in September, a significant improvement from August's 1.3% growth. However, the weakening domestic economy and the downturn in the real estate sector continue to weigh on demand and consumption.

Meanwhile, Chinese shipments to the US have fallen for six straight months. Tensions between the two superpowers escalated after President Donald Trump threatened an additional 100% tariff on Chinese goods and new controls on exports of "critical" software.

This came after China announced it would impose new port fees on US ships in response to the US plan for similar measures. Beijing also expanded controls on exports of lithium-ion batteries and on shipments of rare earth minerals and related technologies.

However, China has been expanding markets in other regions. Exports to Southeast Asia rose 15.6% in September from a year earlier, while those to Latin America and Africa increased by 15% and 56% respectively.
