The first firefighting plane begins work to extinguish fires/ Rama: Stronger and more prepared than ever before
For nearly 48 hours, flames have continued to consume large areas of pine forest in the village of Ribaj, Mallakastra. The fire, which started yesterday morning, has advanced towards the village of Lofkënd, encompassing dozens of hectares of forest and vegetation.
Today, an Air Tractor AT-802F Fire Boss aircraft has arrived to assist the firefighting forces, operating for the first time in the Mallakastra area, intervening from the air in the most problematic areas. Prime Minister Edi Rama has published footage from the firefighting.
In a post on social media, the prime minister writes: "The first firefighting aircraft has begun its activity as an added force of this challenging August, which finds us stronger and more prepared than ever before, but also fully aware, of the risk of extreme escalation of fires beyond our powers, as is currently happening in several large European countries. Respect and gratitude to all our forces on the ground."
The "Bayraktar" drone has been used extensively in recent days to monitor and pinpoint fire sources, providing important assistance in tracking situations from the very beginning. Meanwhile, 4 Air Force helicopters have also been deployed to the firefighting operations, continuing their work on the ground to neutralize active fires.
