8 agreements between the EU, the Western Balkans at the Investment Forum

8 agreements were signed between the Western Balkans and the European Union during the Investment Forum being held in Tirana.

First, an agreement has been signed between the 2 parties and the 4iG group, a large Hungarian telecommunications and IT company operating in several countries in the Western Balkans.

This project concerns the construction of a "digital highway", a high-speed fiber optic network that will connect the 6 Western Balkan countries directly to the European Union's internet infrastructure.

In other words, several powerful underground "data cables" will be laid that carry internet, telephone and cloud connections between the Balkans and the rest of Europe. This will make the internet faster and more stable throughout the region.

2. Construction of an Artificial Intelligence Center and Data Center in Kosovo.

3. Swiss Rockets AG is a Swiss company specializing in biotechnology and the development of innovative medicines, especially for the treatment of serious diseases such as cancer. It will create a research and development (R&D) center for biotechnology and health innovation — that is, a modern laboratory where new medicines and treatments will be developed, scientific studies and laboratory testing will be carried out.

4. Renewable Energy Projects (Albania and Montenegro)

Wind farm in Albania and photovoltaic park with battery energy storage in Montenegro. This aims to increase renewable energy production and storage capacity. This will help both countries transition to clean energy, reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels and support the EU's climate objectives.

5. Mega LFP Battery Factory in Serbia

ElevenEs, a Serbian company supported by EIT InnoEnergy (a European Union initiative that funds green technologies).
A giant factory for the production of LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries will be built in Serbia.
These are batteries that are used in electric cars, in devices that store energy from solar panels or wind turbines, in energy storage for the electricity grid. This will help the EU to have battery production within Europe, instead of importing them from China, strengthen the European supply chain for the electric car industry, and improve Europe's technological independence.

6. Waste to Fuel Conversion Project with a foreign company in Albania.

The other two agreements are with the German development bank, Kfw, and the Green for Growth Fund.
