Britain and the US, pact on nuclear energy - Cooperation aims to accelerate the

Britain and the United States will sign a deal to boost nuclear energy cooperation during US President Donald Trump's visit this week, the British government said. The deal aims to secure investment to finance new plants.

The British government has been launching a major campaign for the expansion of nuclear power for several months, promising investment of 14 billion pounds in a new power plant at Sizewell C. It is also advancing plans for small modular reactors.

Trump will arrive in Britain for a two-day visit, during which he and Prime Minister Keir Starmer will announce nuclear cooperation. The partnership aims to accelerate new projects and investment, including plans to build up to 12 advanced modular reactors in northeast England.

An £11bn project to develop advanced data centres to be powered by reactors in Central England is expected to be announced by US company Holtec International, French firm EDF and real estate partner Tritax.

"These major commitments set us on the path to a golden age of nuclear energy that will reduce household bills in the long term," Starmer said.

The new cooperation will also include nuclear regulations, so that if a reactor passes safety checks in one country, the other country can use the results to support its own checks, shortening the licensing time.

Another investment involves the British company Urenco, which will supply an advanced type of low-enriched uranium to the US market.
