"5 times more artificial intelligence" - Nvidia CEO: Next generation of chips, in "full production"

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the company's next-generation chips are in "full production." He added that they can deliver five times more artificial intelligence than the company's previous chips when powering chatbots and other AI applications.
In a speech at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the head of the world's most valuable company revealed new details about its chips, which will arrive later this year.
The Vera Rubin platform, made up of six separate Nvidia chips, is expected to debut later this year, with the main device containing 72 of the company's main graphics units and 36 of its new central processors. Huang showed how they could be assembled into "pods" of more than 1,000 Rubin chips.
However, to get the new performance results, Huang said that Rubin chips use a type of proprietary data that the company hopes the broader industry will adopt.
"That's how we were able to make such a giant leap in performance, even though we only have 1.6 times as many transistors," Huang said.
While Nvidia still dominates the market for training artificial intelligence models, it faces much greater competition, from traditional rivals like Advanced Micro Devices, as well as customers like Alphabet's Google, in delivering the fruits of those models to hundreds of millions of users of chatbots and other technologies.
Nvidia also touted a new generation of networking switches with a new type of connection called co-packaged optics. The technology, which is key to connecting thousands of machines to a single one, competes with offerings from Broadcom and Cisco Systems.
In other announcements, Huang announced new software that can help autonomous cars make decisions about which path to take and leave a document trail for engineers to use later.
