Hybrid work, AI "frees up" one day a week - Study: Technology

In hybrid jobs, where employees split their time between the office and home, artificial intelligence is “freeing up” almost a day a week. This free time can be dedicated to other activities and helps increase productivity. Not only that, but it also strengthens collaboration and dialogue between generations.

In a world where technology companies are focused on the consumer, employees often work in organizations that are less advanced than they are. This makes them very proactive in implementing new technological tools.

These findings come from a study by the International Workplace Group (IWG), the largest global platform for work, conducted among over 2,000 employees in the US and UK. According to the study, Generation Z plays a leading role in promoting the use of artificial intelligence, training colleagues and improving productivity and collaboration in hybrid work environments.

The positive impact of AI on collaboration is cited by 69% of employees who work part-time remotely and part-time in the office. They say the technology is making it easier to work as a team across offices, citing better meeting preparation (46%) and better access to shared information (36%) as benefits.

Considering that 80% of employees have tried artificial intelligence tools, today an almost equal share, 78%, are able to calculate how much time they have saved thanks to them: on average about 55 minutes per day, corresponding to an entire extra working day per week.

Experts say that “technological advances, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence, are increasing productivity, opening up new career opportunities, and connecting different generations of skills.” According to them, the increased productivity, enabled by artificial intelligence, is helping to create more connected and agile teams, ready for the future of work.

Employees are using their "freed up" time for activities such as creative or strategic work (41%), learning and professional development (41%), or physical collaboration (40%).

About 86% of them say that artificial intelligence has helped them complete assigned tasks faster, while 76% state that technology is accelerating their professional growth, a figure that reaches 87% among Generation Z employees.
