How much did the "neighbors" in Albania spend during the tourist season? North Macedonia the most "lazy", Serbia ranks at the bottom of the list
The tourism industry in Albania has seen its best days throughout 2024, contributing significantly to the economy. Expectations are that this sector will continue to be a key factor with a significant impact on economic growth in the coming years.
Albania has been visited massively by different countries of the world, with 50 of them being reported by INSTAT publications. From the processed data, it is noted that a high number of tourists who have visited Albania are especially from Kosovo and Italy, countries that for the 11-month period have a weight of almost 50%, that is, half of the entries from foreigners.
"Scan Intel" this time comes with an analysis dedicated to the countries of the region, to see how much their interest in Albania has been and how much they have spent during the tourist season in our country. The period April-September of 2024, i.e. the second and third quarters, was analyzed, as it is a period where more tourists have been registered and also coincides with the extension of the tourist season in the country in recent years. Referring to the results of the "Scan Intel" analysis, we see that the weight of visitors from Kosovo to the total, regarding this period, is estimated at 39%. On the other hand, the weight of visits from North Macedonia is recorded at 7.1%, from Montenegro at 5.5%, from Serbia at 1% and from Bosnia and Herzegovina at 0.5%.
On the other hand, according to data from the "Bank of Albania", tourist spending has also hit a record, estimated at 3.1 billion euros for the April-September period.
According to a simple projection, based on the figures for the period mentioned above, we can find out how much tourists from neighboring countries have spent in Albania. With a representation of about 39% of the total, tourists from Kosovo, approximately, where each tourist is estimated to have spent an average figure, have spent about 1.2 billion euros during the past year. Meanwhile, tourists from North Macedonia are estimated to have spent about 217.7 million euros in Albania. On the other hand, tourists from Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina have spent less with 168.7 million euros, 30.6 million euros and 15.3 million euros respectively.
We emphasize that these are the results according to a simple projection, based on official figures regarding average expenditures.
If we analyze the eleven-month period, it results that inflows from the region are estimated at around 5.9 million, with the largest share coming from Kosovo and North Macedonia.
Meanwhile, Serbia has the highest annual growth, with 22.1% more arrivals than in the same period a year ago. North Macedonia ranks second with a growth of 21%.
