How many official holidays will there be in 2026? The Bank of Albania publishes the calendar. Albania among the countries with the most holidays on the continent
Public holidays represent some of the most important days for any nation, as they reflect its traditions, beliefs, and history. Each country has its own calendar of celebrations, which includes both global holidays and unique national holidays. But how many public holidays does Albania have?
According to the official calendar published by the Bank of Albania for 2025, our country has had a total of 15 official holidays, as well as 2 special days off. Meanwhile, the Council of Ministers has decided that Friday, December 26, will also be declared a day off for the public administration. This decision comes as an extension of the Christmas celebrations, as the administration will not work on Thursday, December 25, which is an official holiday. As a result, administration employees benefit from two consecutive days off, while public institutions will return to normal activity on Monday.
How many holidays are expected in 2026? Referring to the holiday calendar published by the Bank of Albania, 15 official holidays are also expected for next year. An analysis by "Scan Intel", referring to the official holiday calendar for 2026, shows that out of the total holidays, 6 of them belong to religious holidays, while 9 are non-religious holidays.
Compared to countries around the world, Albania is classified as a country with relatively few public holidays, with 15 in total. However, if the comparison is made at the European level, Albania ranks among the countries with the most public holidays. In the region, Kosovo has a total of 12 days of holidays, according to the official calendar published by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Meanwhile, Albania ranks behind only two countries in the region, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, which have 16 and 23 official holidays, respectively.
Holidays are special moments that bring people together and reflect the cultural, historical, and religious identity of a society. They serve not only as days off, but also as opportunities for reflection, unity, and the preservation of traditions from generation to generation.
