Durrës-Rrogozhinë electric train/ Financing agreements for the 120.5 million euro project are published in the Official Gazette
Financing agreements for the rehabilitation and electrification of the Durrës-Rrogozhina railway have been published in the Official Gazette, marking a step forward towards the start of works. They include two loans of 30 million euros each from the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, while the remaining 60.5 million euros is financed through a grant from the European Union, under the Western Balkans Investment Framework.
The project aims to rehabilitate the railway line from Durrës to Rrogozhina. The line will be electrified and brought into line with European Union standards, enabling train travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h.
The segment is part of Corridor VIII, a strategic pan-European axis connecting Italy with Albania, North Macedonia and Bulgaria, serving as a hub for the transport of passengers, goods and potentially for military mobility purposes.
Beyond the economic and strategic benefits, the project is expected to have a positive impact on the environment by shifting traffic from roads to railways, significantly reducing pollution and carbon emissions.
Meanwhile, during discussions of the grant agreement in parliamentary committees, it was announced that the rehabilitation and electrification of this section is expected to be completed in 2028.
