The "bill" of Italian tourists in Albania/ Record entry in 2024, over 400 million euros of expenses
The Albanian tourism boom has been the headline of recent times due to the records that have been registered month after month, but also due to the positive impact it has had on the economy and is expected to have in 2025. "Scan Intel" has carried out a a series of analyzes on the changes that have marked tourism, including the increase in the number of entries, countries of origin or even overnight stays. From the processed data, it can be seen that a high number of tourists who have visited Albania are especially from Kosovo and Italy, countries that for the 11th month have a weight of almost 50%, i.e. half of the arrivals from foreigners. What is noticeable, among other things, is the increase especially of tourists from Italy.
According to the figures referred to the "Institute of Statistics", during the period January-November 2024, about 1.2 million Italians visited Albania, while in 2023 a total of about 951 thousand entries were registered. The weight of entries from Italy to the total for this period is estimated at 11%.
On the other hand, according to the data of the "Bank of Albania" the expenses of tourists have reached a record, where for the period January-September they are estimated at 3.85 billion euros.
According to a simple projection, based on the figures of the nine months of 2024, we can find how much Italian tourists have spent in Albania. With a representation of about 11% of the total, tourists from Italy, approximately, where each tourist is estimated to have spent an average figure, spent about 424 million euros during the last year. So, in the event that we have the full figures of expenses for the whole year, the "bill" of Italian tourists may be above this figure. Meanwhile, spending per tourist is estimated at around €423 over the nine months.
But how much did visitors from the region spend in Albania?
Entries from North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia Herzegovina and Montenegro have a weight of 15% of the total. Their expenses during the nine months are estimated at 578 million euros, while the "bill" of tourists from Kosovo is estimated at around 1.5 billion euros.
We emphasize that these are the results according to a simple projection, based on the figures of the nine months of 2024 in terms of average expenses.
