Gender inequality in wages decreases/ In the construction and real estate sector, the gap is in favor of women
According to data from INSTAT, men are paid an average of 4.9% more than women, indicating a significant difference in financial compensation. However, compared to 2023, this gap has narrowed by 1.2 percentage points, signaling a positive movement.
Gender inequality is most pronounced in the extractive, processing and energy industries, where the gap reaches 26.3%. Although this figure remains high, it has also marked a decrease of 1.2 percentage points compared to the previous year.
But where are women paid more? According to the data, women are paid more in the real estate sector, scientific activities and construction. Analyzing the labor market from a gender perspective, it is found that women are 1.5 times more likely than men to be unpaid workers in the family business. Estimates obtained from the LFS show that 32.2% of employed women and 17.6% of employed men are unpaid family workers.
The highest-paid professions in Albania continue to be managers, legislators, executive directors, and highly educated specialists, especially in the fields of finance and communications.
On the other hand, agricultural workers, craftsmen, and workers in elementary professions remain the least paid. The data shows that despite steps forward, the gender gap and divisions between professions continue to be major challenges for the country's labor market.
