Tourism in a surge of investments/ Credit for accommodation and food service

In May 2025, new loans granted to private non-financial corporations were estimated at 22.96 billion lekë, with an annual decrease of 2.9%, compared to the same period a year earlier. The decrease is more moderate compared to April, but still indicates a slight slowdown in the demand for credit by businesses.

The sector that continues to hold the highest share in financing through loans remains “Wholesale and retail trade; Repair of vehicles”, with a total amount of 10.87 billion lek, which represents an increase of 30.6% in annual terms. This sector represents over 47% of the total loan granted for the month, indicating a strong orientation of financing in this direction.

In second place is "Construction" with 2.39 billion lek, although with a decrease of 39.1% compared to last May. Followed by "Processing Industry", which recorded a significant decrease of 47.4%, falling from 4.3 billion lek to only 2.26 billion lek.

Among the sectors with the highest growth this month, “Arts, entertainment and recreation” stands out, which recorded an impressive increase of 836.3%, although the amount remains modest in absolute value. “Real estate activities”, “Administrative and support services” and “Financial and insurance activities” also recorded significant increases.

Meanwhile, “Accommodation and food services”, which includes hospitality and tourism structures, has marked a historic record with 2.17 billion lek of new loans, an increase of 58.1% compared to the same period last year. This is the highest level ever recorded for this sector in a single month, reflecting the tourism industry’s intensive preparations for the summer season and a growing confidence in new investments. The value of May this year is the highest if we analyze the same month in a decade.

Traditionally less funded sectors, such as "Education" and "Professional, scientific and technical activities", this month resulted in significant growth, 259.1% and 70.6% respectively, signaling a newer dynamic in the orientation of borrowing.
