The economy seems to be increasingly orienting activity towards construction, property trading and tourism. Data from the Institute of Statistics show that the share of agriculture in Gross Domestic Product is decreasing year after year, leaving room for the construction and services sectors.

Sectors that have historically created the economy, jobs and contributed to national production are experiencing a deep crisis, negatively affecting economic growth. In the first half of this year, agriculture contracted by 2.6% compared to the same period last year, while industry fell by 3.7%.

For 2024, agriculture accounted for 15.45% of GDP, construction 11.92%, while property activities 4.95%. Together, construction and real estate account for 16.59% of GDP, thus surpassing agriculture. Over the past decade, the share of agriculture in GDP has fallen from 19.12% in 2014 to 15.45% last year, and the decline continues. The same panorama is presented by the indicators for the industry sector.

"Scan Intel" has analyzed the structure of gross value added by region to see in which the share of agriculture has fallen the most.

Agriculture shows a decline in almost all the main regions. Elbasan records a decrease in weight by 5.9 percentage points, Durrës by 3.1, Vlora by 3.2, Shkodra by 2.3, Fier by 1.9 and Dibra by 1.8. These figures signal not simply seasonal difficulties, but a structural contraction of the sector. Only some peripheral areas show an increase, such as Kukës by 4.5 percentage points, Gjirokastra by 1.8 and Berat by 1.1 points, which are more related to the low initial base than to real sustainable development. This trend confirms that agriculture is losing economic weight on a national scale.
