US supplies Middle East - Will export advanced chips to Saudi Arabia, United

The U.S. Commerce Department announced that it has authorized the export of advanced artificial intelligence semiconductors to two companies in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The deal includes up to 35,000 Nvidia Blackwell chips.

The two companies are Abu Dhabi-based state-owned company G42 and Humain, a Saudi government-backed initiative. Both firms have major data center projects in their respective countries.

This announcement coincides with the first visit to the US by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman since 2018, and reflects the strong US support for the aspirations of these states.

“The two companies are receiving approvals to purchase the equivalent of up to 35,000 Nvidia Blackwell chips,” the Commerce Department said in a statement. A total of 35,000 Blackwell chips are valued at about $1 billion, but prices could vary. “The approvals are contingent on the companies’ compliance with strict security and reporting standards,” the Department added.

Earlier in the day, Humain, the Saudi government-backed company, announced that it plans to purchase 600,000 Nvidia chips for the expansion of artificial intelligence.

Humain and xAI, Elon Musk's company, plan to jointly develop data centers in Saudi Arabia, including a 500-megawatt facility.

G42, a technology company affiliated with the Emirati state, aims to build one of the world's largest data centers in the United Arab Emirates, using American technology.

Tech giants such as Nvidia, OpenAI, Cisco and Oracle, along with Japan's SoftBank, are working with G42 to build the first phase, known as Stargate UAE, which is expected to begin operations in 2026.
