KESH conducts first energy sales - Provides around 15 million euros in revenue, after millions of euros in import expenses

The recent rainfall has had positive effects for the Albanian Power Corporation, which has sold energy due to the improvement of the hydrological situation in the Drin River Cascade. Through a procedure conducted for the period 17-23 November, the Corporation has sold around 45,700 mWh of energy, in 3 separate lots, while referring to the sale price, it results that around 4.53 million euros have been collected.
This amount is added to the income that was secured from energy exports in 3 other procedures conducted at the end of October and during this month, which together with the latest sales amount to around 15 million euros.
The four tenders conducted for the sale of energy are the first for 2025. This is because this year has not been good from an energy point of view, due to the lack of rainfall, which would enable the production of electricity from the Drini Cascade hydroelectric power plants. As a result, throughout the year KESH has developed a series of procedures for the purchase of energy, in order to meet consumer needs. The total bill for energy imports has reached over 160 million euros.
This situation presents a stark contrast to last year, when by the end of the first half of the year no import procedures had been carried out, thanks to the supply from the Drini Cascade HPPs. Meanwhile, despite the increasing figures for solar energy, the Albanian power system remains dependent on weather conditions, which in periods of drought cost public finances millions of euros.
