Energy billing changes - ERE approves new instructions for all categories of

The Energy Regulatory Authority has approved a new guideline that changes the way electricity consumption is reflected in consumers' monthly bills. The decision aims to increase transparency, clearly identify the consumer category, and accurately implement the prices approved by the ERE.

According to the decision, each monthly bill will have to contain full details on the consumer category, clearly distinguishing whether it is family consumption, non-family consumption, religious buildings, bakeries, water supply, charging points for electric vehicles or self-producers of energy from renewable sources.

For self-producers with photovoltaic panels, the bill will be divided into two sections: energy produced by the consumer and energy received from the grid. While for electric cars with charging stations over 11 kW, the use of a separate meter and bill dedicated to this category is required.

ERE notes that currently the category of consumers is not reflected on the bill, creating uncertainty and risk for incorrect application of prices. With the new instruction, the identification of the category becomes mandatory, and its failure to comply constitutes an administrative violation.

Energy suppliers must update billing systems and report to the ERE every three months on contracts, self-generation capacities, and charging points for electric vehicles.

The decision will apply to billings starting in December 2025.
