In 2024, tourists spent 426 euros per person in Albania / The total value reaches 4.99 billion euros. Net income accounts for almost half

During the last three months of last year, tourists spent around 1.1 billion euros in Albania, confirming the very positive trend of the sector, which started two years ago. The figures for the last quarter of the year confirm an absolute historical record for 2024.

If we consider the 12 months of the year, the latest official data from the "Bank of Albania" shows that foreigners in Albania have spent a record figure of 4.99 billion euros in total.

According to other INSTAT data, in 2024 the number of foreign citizens who entered the Albanian territory was registered at almost 11.7 million. Thus, according to the figures of the "Bank of Albania", we can find out how much a foreign tourist spent on average in Albania. According to calculations, the average expenditure per person was around 426 euros.

But record spending levels are also reported by Albanians abroad, with 2.7 billion euros over the past year. During the last quarter of the year alone, spending by Albanians abroad was recorded at 612 million euros. However, the net balance between spending by tourists in Albania and Albanians abroad is fixed at around 2.3 billion euros, which is the highest level ever recorded, if we analyze the data since 2008.

If we make a simple projection of how much Albanians have spent abroad per person based on data on citizens' departures, we can say that the value is calculated at 342 euros per person.

These figures confirm that the money spent by tourists this year is undoubtedly an inherent reason that could affect the depreciation of the euro and increase fears of a further decline in the common European currency.
