Shkodër - Gjakova railway, finalization requires 10 years - Details of the 1.8 billion euro project, which will connect Albania with Kosovo by train
The finalization of the Shkodër - Gjakova railway line project requires a 10-year period. The estimates, which are part of the presentation of the feasibility study made by the consultant a few days ago to state institutions, show that there are 5 phases until the line that will connect Albania with Kosovo by rail is put into operation.
The first year includes the development of preliminary design, while the second year will see the development of international tenders and the conclusion of a contract with the company that will build the railway. During the first 2 years, the development of the detailed design or possible expropriations on the route where the railway will pass must also be completed. The construction period is 7 years, while in the last year, testing and commissioning must be carried out.
According to the details of the feasibility study revealed by TV SCAN, the railway line from Shkodra to Gjakova will have 7 stations, at a length of 105.8 km. This segment will contain 43 bridges and 14 tunnels, while the total length of the tunnels is 35.3 km. According to the presentation, the costs for this segment are estimated at 1.8 billion euros. Around 1.7 billion are costs needed for construction, while the rest are estimated as costs for permits, expropriations, etc.
In the presentation made to state institutions by consultants Abcons and ILF Consulting Engineers, it is stated that "the results and findings of the Feasibility Study and Conceptual Design of the Durrës - Prishtina Railway prove the technical feasibility and economic viability of the project", recommending to the institutions to move on to the next phase.
The assessment took into consideration the segment that starts from Shkodra and ends in Gjakova, given that the track from Durrës to Shkodra will be the same as the Vorë - Hani i Hotit railway line, for which tender procedures are being conducted for its construction.
