Graduates "save", others are stuck in unemployment/ Long-term unemployed in total decrease by about 3 thousand in the space of a year

Long-term unemployment in Albania has decreased slightly during 2024, going from over 86 thousand people in 2023, to around 83 thousand a year later. At first glance this is positive news, but detailed figures show a much more complex reality and in some cases completely opposite to expectations.
"Scan Intel" has analyzed in detail the data on long-term unemployment depending on education and focuses on individuals with basic education. According to the figures, this category has seen an increase in long-term unemployment, from 32.7 thousand to 33.5 thousand people. This means that the lower the educational level, the greater the risk of remaining unemployed for a long time, even when the market is generally moving in a positive direction.
A mixed situation appears among graduates with secondary education. Among young people in the 25-29 age group, long-term unemployment has decreased significantly, with over 2.5 thousand people less within a year. But in contrast, among the 25-54 age group, which is considered the most active and productive force of the labor market, long-term unemployment has increased, going from 21.9 thousand to 22.7 thousand people. So, young people manage to enter the market more easily, while experienced adults remain outside it for longer.
On the other hand, individuals with higher education are the clear winners of this change. Long-term unemployment for this category has decreased from 13.8 thousand to 11.7 thousand people, confirming that a university degree remains a strong shield against long-term stagnation in employment.
Overall, the figures show not only a modest decline in long-term unemployment, but above all a clear division between winners and losers in the labor market. Young people and graduates are finding it easier to find their place, while those with basic education and the most productive ages of society are the ones who remain out of the game for the longest time. But we must also take into account the factor of high migration of young people, which may affect this figure.
