"More pensioners for holidays in Turkey" - Gjinaj: Package prices increased 30%, but did not stop demand
Not only are young Albanian couples taking vacations abroad, but also retirees, who, even with the financial help of their children, are increasingly choosing to spend their vacations mainly in Turkey, booking through travel agencies.
"There has been an increase in requests for Antalya from retirees. When they come, the idea is that after they retire, they want a package to go there as a couple, and this year there have been more requests from this age group," says Ms. Gjinaj.
Tourist packages to Turkey this year increased by almost 30% according to data from EUROSTAT, but this did not stop the interest of Albanians to visit the country. In the case of pensioners, the remittances they receive from their families give them a hand in booking their holidays. According to data from the Bank of Albania, during the first quarter of the year, remittances reached 251 million euros, marking a record.
"This year, prices in Antalya have increased by 30% compared to other years, but this does not seem to have influenced their choice. Even Kosovo Albanians have come to Albania less and have also preferred Antalya," says Ms. Gjinaj.
Albanians are increasingly choosing to spend their holidays abroad. According to data from INSTAT, a full 1.5 million departures from the country were recorded in June and July.
