How much did the number of commercial flights increase during March? Albania leads the ranking, leaving behind the region and Europe

The number of commercial flights is considered one of the most important indicators to measure the development of tourism and the level of connectivity of a country with the rest of the world. This indicator directly reflects the flow of tourists, business movements and economic dynamics. In the case of Albania, the latest data show a very positive performance, signaling a strong recovery of the aviation and tourism sector.
According to data published by Eurostat, Albania ranks as the country with the highest growth in Europe in terms of commercial flights, compared to the pre-pandemic period. Specifically, statistics for March show an increase of 165.2%, a figure that not only significantly exceeds the European average, but also places the country at the top of the list for this indicator. This growth is closely related to the expansion of flight offer, the entry of new airlines and the increase in interest of foreign tourists in Albania as a destination.
If we compare Albania with the countries of the region, it is noted that they have also recorded growth, but at significantly lower levels. After Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina ranks second with an increase of 60.1%, while Serbia comes next with 50.8%. On the other hand, North Macedonia has recorded an increase of 44.2%. Montenegro, another important tourist destination, has only recorded a minimal increase of 0.7%, which suggests a relative stagnation in this regard.
At the European level, the picture is more diverse. Iceland ranks among the countries with the highest growth, reaching 62.7%, while Malta and Greece have also benefited from the return of tourism, registering a significant increase in commercial flights. These countries, known for seasonal tourism, have managed to recover a large part of their air traffic.
However, not all countries have followed the same positive trend. Some of them continue to face significant declines in the number of flights. The largest decline was recorded in Slovenia, with a contraction of 35.1%, followed by Sweden with 32.4% and Germany with 20.7%. These developments are related to various factors, including changes in demand, transport policies and economic challenges in the respective markets.
