The Director of Customs meets the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization

As part of his participation in the Annual Meeting of Customs Directors of the European region, which is taking place in Brussels, the Director General of Customs, Besmir Beja, held a special meeting with the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization, Ian Saunders.
During this meeting, the strengthening of cooperation between the Albanian Customs Administration and the World Customs Organization was discussed, with a focus on supporting modernization processes, developing institutional capacities, and accelerating the digitalization of customs services.
The Director General of Customs, Mr. Beja, praised the key role of the World Customs Organization in guiding reforms and promoting international standards, emphasizing Albania's commitment to further advance customs practices in line with the best European and global models.
In presenting the vision for Albanian customs, Director Beja emphasized the priorities towards meeting the criteria for membership in the European Union, which in the field of customs focus on the full approximation of legislation, the implementation of 24 new information technology systems, the inclusion of Artificial Intelligence in risk analysis, as well as the increase and strengthening of human resources to face the challenges of the integration process.
For his part, Secretary General Saunders, Mr. Saunders, expressed his willingness to continue supporting the Albanian Customs Administration, particularly in terms of trade facilitation and increasing operational efficiency.
This meeting confirms the common will to deepen cooperation and further advance reforms in the customs sector, in order to achieve safer and easier trade.
