How fast is the internet for Albanians? We rank 77th in the world. Singapore leads
The Internet has become one of the most inseparable parts of our daily lives. We are spending more and more time connected to the network, whether for work, communication or entertainment. Over the past few years, technology and IT specialists have undertaken a series of interventions to improve the quality of the Internet, making it faster and safer against cyber risks. Among the most important developments has been the implementation of the 5G network on mobile phones, as well as continuous improvements in the home Internet network.
But how fast is the internet connection in Albania really? According to data published by Speedtest.net for 2025, the average internet speed in our country has reached 80.32 megabits per second. This ranks Albania in 77th place in the world, out of 152 countries considered.
Compared to other countries in the region, Montenegro turns out to have the fastest internet, ranking 54th. Serbia and Kosovo also perform better than Albania, with Serbia in 66th place and Kosovo in 74th place. North Macedonia has an average speed of 47.6 megabits per second, while Bosnia and Herzegovina is lower on the list, in 119th place, with an average speed of just 33.2 megabits per second.
Globally, Asian countries remain the leaders in internet speeds. Singapore holds the top spot with an average speed of 336 megabits per second, followed by the United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong. In Europe, France is the continent's leader with an average speed of 287 megabits per second.
At the other end of the spectrum are the countries with the slowest internet. Cuba ranks last in the world in terms of speed, while countries like Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, and Syria also have very poor connections, largely due to a lack of infrastructure and economic or political difficulties.
