How many minutes separate us from school and hospital? Eurostat reveals differences between cities and rural areas in Albania and the region

The European Statistical Agency, Eurostat, has recently published data showing how close homes are to basic institutions, such as health centers, hospitals and schools, services that families use every day. Based on this data, Eurostat calculates the average time it takes a resident to get from their home to one of these institutions, using a car.
For Albania, the data shows clear differences between cities and villages. According to the published map, in smaller municipalities and small towns, the average time to reach a school or health center is relatively short, mostly from 5 to 8 minutes, while in slightly more remote areas it reaches up to about 15 minutes.
What is most striking is the difference between urban and rural areas. Compared to cities, in less urban areas and villages, the distance to basic institutions often requires over 30 minutes of travel, confirming that proximity to schools and hospitals continues to be a problem in these areas.
Compared to other countries in the region, the situation is more or less similar to Albania, urban areas have faster and easier access, while in rural areas the time needed to reach the nearest health centers or schools increases significantly. The situation is different in countries like France and Germany, where almost every area, whether village or city, has good proximity to these institutions, demonstrating the high level of development even in rural areas.
