From the academic world, the banking system and the laws - Candidates for three seats on the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania

The process of selecting three new members of the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania has been concluded with a hearing session at the parliamentary Committee on Economy, where the candidates presented their experience, priorities and vision for the country's central financial institution. The list includes names from the academic world, the banking system, financial supervision and the legal field with an average age of around 45 years.
Faculty of Economics lecturers, Adela Karapici and Matilda Shehu, emphasized financial education, simplified communication with the public, and strengthening institutional independence. Karapici described the central bank as a trustworthy institution for citizens, while Shehu emphasized priorities in ESG, consumer protection, and differentiated financial education.
In the field of consumer protection and law, Saimir Muçmataj, head of the AFSA, brought to attention the experience in drafting the acts and regulatory framework of the Bank of Albania, as well as the experience in supervisory structures. Holta Zaçaj, former President of the Constitutional Court, also emphasized the legal and institutional contribution, as well as the experience with international institutions.
Candidates with a financial and banking background were numerous. Arben Zibri, a financial analyst, spoke about strengthening macroprudential analysis, competition and digital innovation. Erjona Bejleri presented her 23-year experience in the banking sector with a focus on modern supervision. Elton Korbi, with two decades in finance and insurance, emphasized stability, modernization and public trust.
Liljana Mamadhja, a financial expert at SPAK, presented extensive experience in risk analysis and financial investigation, underlining her impartiality and institutional integrity. Violeta Staka, currently a member of the supervisory board, seeks a new mandate with a focus on stability and decision-making based on law and analysis.
In terms of technological developments and payments, Luljeta Minxhozi and Merita Bejtja focused on the challenges of implementing the European payments framework and integrating into SEPA, as a step towards faster transfers and digital inclusion. Ingrid Konomi also proposed increasing transparency through digital platforms and real-time reporting for the public and consumers.
On the other hand, Eni Xheko presented her experience in boardrooms, focusing on independence, connection to the real economy and transparency. Emis Cerava highlighted the combination of banking, academic and policy-making experience, with a focus on lending to key sectors. Fatmira Kola and Aleksandër Çavo focused on institutional responsibility and the sustainability of the financial system in the context of technological transformation.
Candidates with direct links to the Bank of Albania are also Selami Xhepa and Pajtim Melani, who pointed out their previous experience at the central bank and the need to strengthen the supervisory role and consumer protection.
The selection process is expected to continue with the evaluation of candidacies and the selection of three of them to be members of the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania.
