Online incidents increase by 67%/ Girls most affected. Tirana, Durrës and Kukës present more problems
Being online, although it has become a daily necessity for various reasons, also carries significant consequences. These risks become even more pronounced when it comes to children, but adults are not excluded, who have also faced cases of bullying and online threats. The most frequently reported incidents are related to forms such as blackmail, stalking and online intimidation, constituting a serious threat to children and young people.
According to the report of the iSIGURT.al platform, which covers the period January-December 2024, a total of 407 problematic cases were registered, an increase of almost 67% compared to last year. Tirana holds the highest number of reports with 48%, while cities such as Durrës and Kukës also show high figures.
Girls and women are not only the most affected victims, but also the ones who most often report such incidents. Statistics show that 62% of reports are made by girls, 34% by boys, while in 4% of cases the gender is not specified. The majority of victims are female children.
In terms of categories, the 15–18 year old age group is the one that has experienced the most concerns while using the internet and digital platforms, followed by the 19–24 year old group.
The report highlights that TikTok is the platform with the highest number of reports, with 209 cases, followed by Facebook and Instagram. However, it is worth noting that TikTok has reacted more quickly to reports, closing or blocking problematic accounts within a short time.
At a time when the internet has become an integral part of our daily lives, it is essential that users, especially children and young people, are aware of the risks that can come from digital spaces. The increase in online incidents points to the urgent need for cyber education and protection, as well as greater responsibility from social platforms.
