During the first 6 months of the year, around 464 thousand passengers entered the Albanian territory by sea. The number of passengers using sea transport continues to increase. Since 2020, this is the largest increase in the number of passengers. The total number of passengers traveling via sea routes has increased by 7% from last year.
The Port of Durrës is the largest port in the country, receiving a significant number of passengers. However, during the second quarter of the year, the largest number of passengers passed through Saranda, almost 178 thousand. On the other hand, the Port of Saranda is the one that has experienced the largest increase in the number of passengers, with a change of 14.1% compared to the first half of last year.
In terms of transported goods and their volume, the Port of Durrës continues to account for the largest share of turnover. During the second quarter of 2025 alone, 93.6% of goods loaded and unloaded by sea, or 2,063 thousand tons, were transported. Meanwhile, for the first half of the year, a total of 3,848 thousand tons of goods were transported. If we compare it with the same period a year ago, the Port of Shëngjin has recorded the largest increase, by 43.2%, mainly due to the increase in exports.
Regarding the most transported groups of goods during the second quarter of the year, it turns out that the group of base metals and fabricated metal products ranks first, with about 375 thousand tons. A high volume of transported goods also belongs to other mineral products, as well as coke and refined petroleum products.
