About 1 in 5 students choose a profession/ Their share within the total number of students in high school, with steady growth
Interest in vocational education in Albania has shown an interesting dynamic over the past few years. While the number of students choosing this path has decreased slightly in absolute terms, following the general trend of decreasing school population, their percentage within the total number of students in high school has marked a steady increase.
In 2012, 19,596 students were enrolled in vocational education, which accounted for about 12.7% of all students in high school. Ten years later, in 2024, this absolute number had decreased slightly to 16,987 students, but its share in the total high school population had increased to 19%. This shows that, although the school population is generally decreasing, vocational education is attracting a larger share of young people who choose the path of specialized education.
The trend of increasing the share of vocational education has been evident since 2013, when this percentage was 15%, gradually reaching 18-19% in recent years.
According to figures analyzed by "Scan Intel", out of about 89 thousand students in total in secondary education, it appears that approximately 1 in 5 students choose vocational education.
This percentage increase is also a positive indicator for economic and social development, as vocational education prepares skilled and specialized workers, helping to strengthen the labor market and providing real opportunities for young people to quickly integrate into the economy. In this context, investment in vocational education remains a strategic priority for the future of young people and the country.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, data from the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation indicates a number of over 4,000 new registrations in vocational education for the 2025-2026 academic year.
