Part-time work declining during 2025/ Young people and women remain the group most involved in this form of employment

Part-time employment is one of the forms of employment that has gained increasing importance in recent years, often seen as a flexible alternative for individuals who cannot commit to full-time work. However, data for 2025 show that the weight of this type of employment has been declining during the year, especially in recent months.
According to data on the working-age population, at the beginning of 2025, there were 13.1% part-time employees compared to total salaried employees. A slight decrease was observed during the second quarter, when this percentage dropped to 12.6%. The decline continued in the third quarter, when part-time employment reached 11.8%. The downward trend became even more noticeable at the end of the year, when this indicator fell significantly to 8.2%, marking the lowest level during the entire year.
The data also show significant gender differences in this form of employment. Men result in a lower percentage of part-time employment, while for women this phenomenon is more widespread. During 2025, for men the highest level was recorded at the beginning of the year with 9.5%, while at the end of the year this percentage fell to 5.9%. The same downward trend was also observed among women, but with significantly higher levels: from 17.2% at the beginning of the year to 10.9% at its end.
If we analyze the age groups, it turns out that young people aged 15–24 have the highest percentage of part-time employment. This is mainly due to the fact that many of them are still in the process of studying and choose or are forced to work reduced hours. A relatively high level of this form of employment is also observed in the age group of 55–64, which ranks second in terms of percentage of part-time employment.
Meanwhile, the 25–54 age group presents the lowest percentage, as most individuals in this category are engaged in full-time work and in the most active phase of their careers.
Overall, the data shows that despite the flexibility it offers, part-time employment has declined during 2025, reflecting the changes.
