Ukraine wants money and technology for drones in the Middle East - Zelensky: For us, both technology and financing are important

Ukraine is seeking money and technology in exchange for help from Middle Eastern countries after a request for its expertise to defend against Iranian suicide drones. The request was made by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, after Kiev sent specialists to the region. He told reporters that three teams were being sent to the Middle East to conduct expert assessments and demonstrate how drone defenses should work. Earlier this week, he said the teams were being sent to Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, as well as to a US military base in Jordan.
"It's not about getting involved in operations. We are not at war with Iran," Zelenskiy said. He said more fundamental, long-term deals on drones could be negotiated with Gulf countries, and what Ukraine would get in return for the assistance is still to be discussed. "For us today, both technology and financing are important," Zelenskiy said.
Gulf states have spent large amounts of air defense missiles to counter Iran's Shahed drones. Kiev shoots down Russian drones every night using a variety of weapons, including cheaper, smaller drones or jamming devices.
Zelenskiy said the United States, as well as countries from Europe, the Middle East and Africa, have asked Ukraine for help in countering these attacks. However, U.S. President Donald Trump has said the United States does not need Ukraine's help in shooting down the drones. Zelenskiy said he did not know why Washington had not signed a major drone deal, which Kiev has been delaying for months, and that he was not sure whether any agreement would be reached on it. "I wanted to sign a deal worth about $35 billion to $50 billion," he said. He also criticized several Ukrainian companies and foreign governments, which he did not name, which he said had sought to make deals for anti-drone equipment without Kiev's approval.
