Fewer old vehicles on the roads - 1,761 vehicles deregistered, positive impact on the environment and safety

The General Directorate of Road Transport Services announces that during the months of January and February 2026, the number of old vehicles that were deregistered from circulation increased. According to official data, a total of 1,761 vehicles were deregistered during this period, with an average age of 22 years. Meanwhile, an increase of 32.5% was recorded compared to the same period in 2025.
Deregistering depreciated vehicles is an important step not only for environmental protection, but also for increasing road safety. Older vehicles often have lower safety standards and contribute more to air pollution, so removing them from circulation helps improve the quality of life and reduce the risk of accidents.
Meanwhile, the technical inspection of vehicles remains one of the most important elements for road safety. According to data from the General Directorate of Road Transport Services, during the first two months of January-February 2026, a significant number of 16,301 vehicles failed to pass the technical inspection. Due to problems related to the exhaust system; visual and functional deficiencies; steering & suspension system, as well as problems related to the braking system.
On the other hand, individuals have the opportunity to carry out procedures through the e-Albania platform, where they can book an appointment online for the necessary service. The General Directorate of Road Transport Services calls on vehicle drivers to regularly check the documentation and technical condition of the vehicle they own, so that the vehicle is always safe and ready for traffic on the road.
