Kosovo the "star" of Albanian exports / April "returns" negative numbers, but the four-month figures remain on the rise
Albania's foreign trade for April 2025 again brings negative signals in terms of exports. Data published by INSTAT show that in April 2025, exports of goods fell to 33 billion lek, marking a decrease of 4.1% compared to April 2024 and 5% less than in March. Imports, meanwhile, increased slightly by 0.4% in annual terms, reaching 76 billion lek. As a result, the trade deficit reached 43 billion lek, with an increase of 4.3% compared to a year earlier.
However, the outlook for the first quarter of the year remains more stable, with exports increasing by 2.3% compared to the same period in 2024, while imports decreased by 2.5%. This has led to the trade deficit narrowing by 6.5%, falling to 144 billion lek.
Regarding the annual change in the main groups in terms of exports, in April the largest decline was recorded by construction materials, leather and leather products, and chemical products.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, in terms of imports, we see that textiles and footwear have the largest decline, followed by machinery and spare parts. Wood and paper products have the largest increase.
In terms of trade by country, Kosovo is the partner with the highest export growth, with an impressive 87.1% increase in April and 81% in the four months. It is followed by Greece and Germany. In contrast, exports to Italy, Spain and China have suffered significant declines.
Italy remains the main trading partner with 25.8% of exchanges in April, followed by China with 8.9% and Turkey with 7.9%.
