Albania’s import map shifts: China surges, Turkey drops

The latest data on the structure of imports show that the weight of Albania's main partners has undergone significant movements during the period January-October 2025, compared to the same period in 2024. The weight distribution chart, created by "Scan Intel", shows that Italy continues to maintain its position as the first country with 21% of total imports, although with a slight decrease of 1.8%. It is followed by China, which this year has recorded strong growth and reached 13.2%, significantly strengthening its position as a strategic supplier.

Turkey has fallen to third place with 9.5%, after a significant contraction of 14.9% compared to last year, losing ground even to China. Greece holds fourth place with 8.1% of imports and has recorded a steady increase of 4%. Meanwhile, Germany has recorded a decrease in the share of imports from 7.2% to 6.8%, also reflected in a negative annual change of 5.9%.

Serbia continues the upward trend, reaching 2.7% of the total and marking an expansion of 8.4%, while Poland confirms a strong position with 2.3% of imports and a solid growth of 11.1%. Saudi Arabia maintains stability with 2.1% and a modest growth of 0.8%. Meanwhile, the United States has suffered a significant decrease in the weight of imports from 2.3% to 2%, reflecting a contraction of 12.2%. South Korea has also marked a slight decrease, dropping from 2% to 1.9%.

The data show that the composition of the main partners is generally stable, but with noticeable shifts in the rankings. China has emerged as this year’s winner, taking second place and recording the strongest growth with 24.3%, while Turkey is the country that has lost the most ground. The weight of the “Others” group has fallen from 31.5% to 30.4%, which indicates that imports are increasingly concentrated on the main partners.

The overall picture shows a clear redistribution of key suppliers, with an increase in Asian influence and a slight slowdown of some traditional European and transatlantic partners.
