Individuals accelerate lending pace in March/ New loans reached 39.9 billion lek, an increase of 10.5%

According to the latest data from the "Bank of Albania", total credit reached 958.5 billion lek in March 2026, with a significant increase of 10.6% compared to March last year, and an increase of 1.2% compared to February of the same year. So, if we talk in absolute figures, it results that in the span of one year it records an increase of 92 billion lek.
At the same time, new loans disbursed by the banking system during March reached 39.99 billion lek, up from 36.2 billion lek in the same month last year. This translates into an annual increase of about 10.5%, while the March 2026 level is the highest for this month in the series presented by the “Bank of Albania”.
New loans to private non-financial corporations reached 27.24 billion lek in March, up from 25.48 billion lek a year earlier, or about 6.9% more. This indicates that demand for financing from the private sector remains robust, supporting overall lending growth in the economy.
The expansion of new lending during March was mainly driven by individuals. In this segment, new loans increased to 12.57 billion lek, from 10.41 billion lek in March 2025, marking an annual increase of about 20.8%. This indicates a recovery in demand for financing from individuals compared to a year ago.
Regarding loans for housing purchases, the total of this category reached 5.75 billion lek in March 2026, from 5.30 billion lek in March 2025, or about 8.5% more in annual terms.
Overall, March data show a continued expansion of lending to the economy, with growth supported by both businesses and individuals, while the housing loan segment has shown signs of stabilization after fluctuations in previous months.
