Statewide race, 17 applications for one "chair"/ 34 years old average age of applicant, 40 years old to be promoted to office
According to figures referred to the annual report of the Department of Public Administration, for the year 2024 there were an average of about 17.55 applications for a job position in the civil service. This indicator is calculated based on the total number of applications for advertised positions. Based on the data of the report for the year 2024, about 26 thousand applications were registered in total for 1,510 advertised positions in total. Out of 19,173 applications in total, only 54% of them qualified to continue the procedures after meeting the criteria for the advertised positions. When we talk about the number of applicants who are qualified, their number drops to an average of 9.4 applicants for a position for the year 2022.
"Scan Intel" has analyzed this indicator over the years to see what the trend in the number of applications in public administration has been. Compared to 2023, the average number of applications for a position has increased by almost 4 more applications, from 13.5 on average the year before. Referring to the period from 2001 to 2024, the record for the number of applications is recorded in 2020 with 24 applications per position. In almost 24 years in total, the years with the highest number of applications, in addition to the record of 2020, are 2018 with 22 applicants, 2017 with 18 applicants and 2022 with 17.9 applicants.
During 2024, 1221 civil servants were appointed to civil service positions. On the other hand, "Scan Intel" has also analyzed the appointments according to the procedure. According to the figures, about 50.2% of the appointments were admissions to the civil service, about 17.4% were parallel moves and 18.3% were promotions.
From the data in the report, it is noted that the average age of those applying, regardless of the type of procedure, was 34 years old, while the average age of applicants for admission to the civil service was 32.5 years old and the average age of those applying for promotion was 40 years old. As for gender data regarding the percentage of applications, out of 4602 unique applications, 40% of them were made by men and 60% by women.
