Port in Porto Romano, pre-qualification phase ends Balluku: Albania will have a model port, a HUB in the Mediterranean
The pre-qualification phase for the construction of the new Port in Porto Romano has been completed. In a post on social media, Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, also Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, stated that 5 international consortia participated in an open and transparent competition.
The commission, led by the international consultant Royal HaskoningDHV, qualified 2 consortia, which after submitting the physical documentation will present the economic offers. According to Balluk, Albania will have a model port, a HUB in the Mediterranean, which will serve the entire region.
The first phase included the opening of the tender competition, part of which was the development of a two-berth container terminal.
The second phase was the pre-qualification phase, where potential bidders are pre-qualified on condition that they meet a set of predetermined technical and financial criteria. With the closure of this phase, the bidding phase begins in which pre-qualified bidders can submit their financial bid.
This project aims to modernize the port infrastructure, with larger ships and almost double the depth compared to the current depth.
The port construction fund is 390 million euros. Royal HaskoningDHV is the company that will oversee the entire process, from the tender to the construction works for the port.
Porto Romano will be a world-class, international, technologically advanced and efficient port, which will handle the anticipated future seaborne cargo for Albania and the region.
This port will not only serve Albania, but also Kosovo and North Macedonia, as it will be connected via railway to two dry ports in Pristina and Struga.
